Aelian is the wilderness-attuned half of the adventuring pair he and Edaric Tonmor make up. He's a touch on the frail side, which he blames on his elven heritage, and is a somewhat prickly individual. However, you'd be hard-pressed to find a quicker or better shot with the longbow. He also has extensive wilderness knowledge and a keen sense of observation, if you can get past the bristly demeanor. This makes him an excellent foil for Edaric, who is quite good with people, but a little lacking in the common sense department sometimes. The two of them both grew up in the small village of Oakridge before taking to Castleton and the surrounding areas as adventurers; they were captured by the Redmaw goblins while investigating the raids and kidnappings the tribe had been going on.
Aelian is first and foremost a distance fighter. He much prefers to take his foes out from as far away as he can, especially given his steady hand with the bow and his physical frailty. He is quite used to firing into melee, given how normally he shoots while Edaric distracts the enemy, though by and large he prefers to snipe foes before they even realize that he is present.
Aelian and Edaric were bought together from the Redmaw goblins by the false sculptor Jonah Restren, and turned into statues while fighting him and his cockatrice pet. Aelian was freed by the Vigilant Guardians and Edaric when the Guardians busted Restren's operation — and accidentally nearly shot Gnogglebolt Sparkgear, as he had been caught with an arrow held taut on his bowstring! Afterward, the adventuring pair accompanied the Guardians, Kethanis Whitebranch, Jalzar, and Luethil Aellonor on their quest to rout Freida Briarclaw and her coven. Afterward, he and Edaric were adopted as honorary Guardians, and have since lived at Guardian HQ. For Aelian, however, there's more than one reason to stick near the Guardians; he and Tathi Eyllisaearsithek have struck up a romantic relationship.
Aelian's birthday is Fharlon 2nd… which means, yes, Aelian spent his 26th birthday as a statue. Whoops.
Aelian also has the dubious honor of being the first Vigilant Guardian to die (and be revived) on duty. A cone of cold fired by an ogre mage in Braxton Falls killed him on Yondallon 8th, 1221 CA. He was brought back to life about an hour later.
