A strange messenger who shows up at the most coincidental of times with unusually pertinent intelligence, usually in the form of a warning. Thus far, he gave Tathi a warning to not trust the Order of Orgolloyss before the group left for Redtree, and again later when the group was heading for Sszeyl's party, giving a warning that one of the guests was sending unpleasantry rather than pleasantries. Thomas, Miron, and Barbarus later met him in the Castleton market, and thanked him for his timely information, as well as requesting to know who he is and who he works for. While he listed off several names for himself, he declined to identify his benefactors.

A chat with Robin Malino revealed that one of the names the man gave for himself, Cal'tel, is the name of a supposed shapeshifting spy with an interest in the affairs of elves and drow alike. He was then spotted twice in passing at the Sign of the White Rose in Castleton; once to give Edaric Tonmor a wealth of information about Yazagh of Orgolloyss, and once again shortly after Barbarus lost his arm and eye. (However, this second time, the high-strung Guardians swarmed around his hiding place, believing him to possibly be a drow assassin, forcing him to make a quick getaway through the practice room's window.) The White Rose seems to be his tavern of choice, despite occasional interruption from adventurers; Darroth Denbury seems to know him pretty well.

He later gave a letter to the Vigilant Guardians, stating it was to be given to an 'Arivan Marathal in Thalinde, or to his daughter'. The instructions were to tell the Marathals that the letter was meant for a Pellan'zyne. He said that the letter had to be delivered before the 15th of Yondallon in order to avert a disaster. When the letter was finally delivered, Arivan/Pellan'zyne informed the group that the Mysterious Messenger is an ally of the Sun Raiders and highly connected with them. How exactly this connection began was not addressed by the Pelorite drow, nor was the nature of the connection itself. He at least seems to be a colleague of Rhylinar, as the drow has said that he asked Cal'tel to deliver the letter for Pellan'zyne into the Guardians' hands.

Miron Steelsprocket seems to have made it a personal mission to bring Cal'tel to justice, especially in light of reports from Braxton Falls about a trio of seemingly politically-motivated murders tied to the mysterious half-elf. The history of Cal'tel's mysterious warning letters stretches back to 1184 CA, so the gnomish inquisitor may have quite the job on his hands…
