In-Game Portraits
These are a collection of portraits painted IC by Sszeyl, for the Vigilant Guardians.
Goddess of Fire
Depicts Tathi, hands up above her head weaving magics, while red energy surrounds her, then bursts into flames all about. Kor brandishes a knife and fork threateningly from atop her head. In the corner is a little arrow with the shaft made of a silk ribbon, and on the back is the title of the piece.
The Freeshooter
Depicts Aelian blowing smoke off his fingertips, as leaves fall around him; each and every one impaled with an arrow. Around his bowstring is wrapped an arrow with a shaft made of a silk ribbon. On the back is the title.
Which Part is Real?
Which depicts Calrach sitting on a stump, blowing into a dandelion, who's seeds circle in the air around him as a spiral from the viewer's perspective. As the seeds pass his feet, they morph into bees, as they pass his opposite shoulder, they morph into flower petals, as they come around to the other side, they morph into ravens, then at the very top of the painting, the ravens become a rainbow. There's an arrow with a silk ribbon shaft hanging from a tree branch in the background, while the back has the title.
The Heavenly Virtue: Kindness
Thomas, among a sea of children, healing a scrape with one hand, and keeping a babe from tormenting a cat with the other, while Terri rides on his shoulders, and a mirror showing many tall long silver-haired figures, one of which is obviously female, and a bit of a show-off, and the only distinct feature about any of them is their wide smiles. On the back is the title.
Applied Book Learning
Miron is seated on a stool, amongst many a volume of ancient lore, in a grand library. His left hand is idly throwing his mace which is attached to a rope, down at a skeleton, and shattering it's skull. An arrow with a silk ribbon for a shaft is scrawled on a book's spine. On the back is the title.
The Most Interesting Elf in the World
Edged in multiple scenes, with the large center one being Elros and Ezer at a table, relaxed, while two women chatter, and expensive wine just sits there. Each of the scenes corresponds to a line of the title on the back.
"His words carry a weight that would break a less interesting man's jaw." "He's a lover, not a fighter; but he's also a fighter, so don't get any ideas." "He is the life of parties he has never attended." "His beard alone has experienced more than a lesser man's entire body." "He can speak Elvish… in Dwarvish." "He once punched a magician. That's right. You heard me." "If he were to punch you in the face, you would have to fight off the strong urge to thank him." "If he patted you on the back, you would put it on your resume." "He once taught a dog to bark… in Feline." "He bowls overhanded." "Sharks have a week dedicated to him." "He lives vicariously… through himself." "He once had an awkward moment, just to see what it felt like." "When in Castleton, they do as he does."
"He is the most interesting Elf in the world."
The arrow with a silk ribbon for the shaft is on the back.
The Role Model
Edaric the bard, strumming a guitar while speaking to questioning people, while Dwarves toast him, and a younger person watches how he strums, trying to copy him. An arrow with a silk ribbon shaft hangs from the ceiling of the scene, and on the back is the title.
Where the Ocean Meets the Cyclone
An image of Swallowtail seated in a tree heavy with autumn coloured leaves, holding a silver swallow on one finger, while having a small black turtle in her lap. A unfolded tessen is in her free hand, which she is using to fan herself. However, if you look closely, rivulets of red liquid can be seen on the fan, and the hand she's waving it with. An arrow with a silk ribbon shaft is on one of the branches, and across the back is a sentence in Amayan.
From beneath you, it Devours
A black-skinned figure sitting on among spiderwebs, holding two masks in his hands. On the left, the mask is red-eyed, and expresses malicious glee with needle teeth. On the right, the mask is blue-eyed, and expresses unimaginable despair. The mask he's wearing across his face is green-eyed, and perfectly neutral. From behind the webs, a pair of huge white eyes stare out at the viewer. The figure wears a large arrow with a silk ribbon shaft as a belt, and on the back is it's title.
Grease Monkey
Gnogglebolt with his goggles on, wrenching some gear workings in a large workshop while other gnomes hoist a clock face up. An arrow with a shaft made from a silk ribbon is embossed on one of the gears. On the back is the title.
The Dreamer
The portrait depicts Terri seated beneath an oak tree at night, with Papa sleeping over her legs. She is looking up into a night sky filled with more stars than normal, and swirling clouds. A bright full moon hangs in the sky, while a Gold dragon flies over it's face. A little halo of gold light shines around Terri, and a arrow with a silk ribbon for a shaft hangs on one of the tree branches.
The Fourth Horseman
Shankfang rides upon Dragula in a rocky, desert terrain. Dragula is leaving a trail of flames in it's wake, and in the distance you can see shattered hulks of other Deffbikes. The odd perspective is that the picture focuses on Shankfang, leaning to one side on Dragula, and pointing a pistol at the viewer, while a bullet launches forward, just out of the barrel. Words are carved into the bullet: Say Goodnight. The shadow Shankfang and Dragula are casting here not what they physically appear as, but as a hooded horseman with a scythe in mid-swing. An arrow with a silk ribbon for a shaft hangs on a boulder. And on the back is the title.
The Third Horseman1
Barbarus is seated upon a throne of blackened bones. Most of his features are cast in shadow, especially on the left side of his body. But what is visible is his right eye, and one half of a vicious smile. Kneeling before him are desperately skinny individuals, looking pleading. Flanking him are two statues of mule-headed figures. The figure on Barbarus' right is solid gold, studded with gems, and it's figure hoards coins and foodstuffs. The figure on Barbarus' left is partially on fire, it seems. A demonic personage, horned and breathing smoke, hefting a notched axe as if to bring it down upon the kneeling figures. The catfolk holds an arrow with a silk ribbon for a shaft in his visible right hand.
