| I'm not a hero. I'm not an adventurer. I'm not a priest. I'm just a decent human being who runs a tavern. |

Darroth is the owner, founder, and bartender of the Sign of the White Rose in Castleton, also known as Talespinner Tavern. The White Rose does play host to some members of the criminal element, but by and large, Darroth runs the tavern as a sanctuary and safe haven for any who need it. He always has his sharp eyes open for any malicious dealings, and while several who pay homage to Olidamarra and Fharlanghn frequent the Rose, anyone displaying the symbol of an evil deity is not allowed inside. Hecklers are also frequently given the boot (usually Damien's boot), since the tavern is a popular place for both budding and experienced entertainers to practice their skills and swap songs and tales.
Darroth himself is something of an enigma. Any inquiries into the spry old rogue's past are artfully deflected, or answered with fanciful tales that seem to vary from one telling to the next radically. His accent marks him as not being a Castleton native, but where he originally hails from is a mystery.
One thing that is a constant in all of the tales told about him is his "weak constitution." One of his most distinctive habits is the wearing of a cloth mask over his nose and mouth whenever he ventures far from the Rose. This has gotten him in trouble in the past, as people tend to assume that other people wearing masks are up to no good…
