"It was a dark apparition from that hidden life which lies, like a hidden by-street, behind the well ornamented facade that meets the sunlight and the gaze of respectable admirers." Joseph remarks, while leaning on the edge of the bridge.
Joseph Hieronymus-Reshal; One of my most brooding, sorrowful and vice-ridden characters. All of my characters are facets of my sum personality, and Joseph is entrenched in my super-ego. The super-ego aims for perfection. A lofty but ultimately impossible goal, and both his shortcomings and his pride are a reminder that he is only human, where the world pressures him to live up to Reshal's name, trying to forcefeed him destiny. His destiny simply imposes upon him as a sword of Damocles.
Sneaking up on him for a pounce and a glomp is Scarlet Winslow, with her tongue sticking out.
Scarlet Winslow is one of my simplest and most cathartic characters. She is also a facet of my sum personality, and she comes from the id and ego. While you could argue that her avoidance of inherently evil pursuits is part of a superego response, she is mediated by her simple outlook. This is to solidify the idea that she is not just a favoured soul of a dark, evil god. She is a human girl, as much as anyone is, her destiny is coincidental.
Both are different and similar at the same time, and Joseph realizes that his similarity with his Akellon and Dwarf Fortress counterpart isn't just a coincidence. It brings to light a common theme in my writing: the challenge to make a path, instead of following one. The challenge of freedom from inevitability.
Of course, he hasn't much time for higher, existential thought when a young girl empowered with the divine might of Nerull tackles his back and showers him with greetings and yayifications.
"Can you not do that?" He tries to dust himself off.
"Aww, but it's so much fun suprising you! Come on, have a little fun. You're young too, aren't you?" 8D
"No thanks. I had—"
"Silly Joseph, don't use that 'I had fun once' quote. That's a little too much of a meme for your seriousface." XP
"..well. Seriously though, Reshal is so stressful for me. I mean look: I'm barely an adult and I'm already jaded, cynical and trying to drink my problems away. It's a miracle I haven't taken snuff, or smoking. I'm a wreck, just trying to hide myself as being fine and peachy."
The favoured soul pokes Joseph's chest, "You need to lighten up. Why not ask Akeboshi out to do fun things?" ;)
The bard looks off to the side, "..I, I can't."
"Why not?" :.
"In an ideal world, I would. But there's too much at stake right now to be bothered by silly things like entertaining myself, and indulging in my feelings and heaven forbid, love."
"Well, do you love her?" :o
"I can't answer that." He quickly responds.
"Aw."
The fun thing about mysteries is that they're mysteries. I'm not going to say one way or another, now am I?

"So what about you?"
Scarlet looks around, "Me?" :o
"You're a dark messiah. A harbinger of apocalyptic nightmares. How in the world do you cope with it?"
The favored soul giggles, "I just do!" XD
"That's not an answer!"
"Yes it is!" 8P
"Our creator is just being a tease until he can vent it all in Akellon 2 and doesn't want to give a straight answer on that, isn't he?"
"Yup!" XD
Setz Imir pops in, holding a mug with a symbol of Khorne on it filled with coffee flavoured blood. "Shh. Play nice."
"…"
"…"
"Arcalane is going to bop our creator, now, isn't he?"
END (for now)
