"Fuzzy" is a black bear with a den about thirty minutes outside of Castleton and directly across from the Redmaw Hideout. He was given his name by Terri because no one except the twins Elros and Tadrim could understand his actual name. Sszeyl agreed to feed him as much fish as he could eat in return for assistance with the Goblin prisoners the group had recently acquired. Fuzzy's introduction got off to a rocky start with him automatically getting on the wrong side of Papa and having both Derish and Trofim rip his self-confidence apart by implying he was a 'small bear'. Sszeyl had to scramble to keep Fuzzy on board, with help from Terri; the two fed him their supplies of smoked meats. Not long after, he proved his usefulness in keeping Dosemz otherwise indisposed while Gnogglebolt handled the sudden abandonment of The Party by Terri and Papa. He traveled with The Party to Castleton without incident, except for Trofim attempting to make off with him. Barshal put a stop to it, however. During the return trip to the caves, Fuzzy was given another snack courtesy of Sszeyl Birdhunter. He was last seen sleeping off a feast of giant rats, fish, and fiendish ravens.
Backstory
Fuzzy, or Ggrrarrghrrgrm in his native tongue, was born as one of a litter of three cubs to Hrrgrmmgrr in the winter while she hibernated. He was the middle cub out of the three, neither huge and strong like his brother Rrghmrrargh, or small and sickly like his other brother Mrraghrrarrg. The three had an average cubhood, growing stronger and learning the ways of the world under Hrrgrmmgrr's tutelage. (As is the bear custom, the cubs never met their father, Grrammgrrrarrgh, while they were growing up, although the ursine rumor mill speaks of a time when Rrghmrrargh met him in a battle over territory years later.)
Shortly after they were weaned in the summer, Hrrgrmmgrr's territory was hit with a terrible storm. Mrraghrrarrg became lost in the wind and rain, and despite Hrrgrmmgrr, Ggrrarrghrrgrm, and Rrghmrrargh searching for him, he was not found. (Ggrrarrghrrgrm saw him once, many years later, in the company of a strange hairless bipedal creature.) The loss of her cub saddened Hrrgrmmgrr, but such was the way of the world. She had lost cubs before. Rrghmrrargh, however, took the loss harshly. He began to treat Ggrrarrghrrgrm much like he had treated Mrraghrrarrg; as a small, annoying, food-stealing nuisance, and as someone to test battle skills out on. Ggrrarrghrrgrm endured a year and a half of this treatment, swearing to himself that one day, when he could stake out his own territory like Hrrgrmmgrr and Grrammgrrrarrgh had, he would leave that place and build a finer territory than Rrghmrrargh's, a place where the river was clean and the fish were plentiful! A place where berries grew, and sometimes, you wouldn't have to go out to find food; it would come to you!
However, that was a long way off in the eyes of a bear. When the time finally came and Hrrgrmmgrr chased him and his brother out into the world, he chose a small cave on the border of his mother's territory. Life was hard there for the young bear; the most plentiful game was rabbit, and the quicker wolves, foxes, and hawks could catch them much more easily than Ggrrarrghrrgrm could. However, he persevered, surviving his first two winters alone there.
It was one day in that territory when he encountered his first mate, a she-bear by the name of Marraghrrarrm. When they first met, they were attempting to fish the same stream in her territory. While Marraghrrarrm had another bear, Hrrammgrrarrgh, vying for her affections, Ggrrarrghrrgrm won the day in a dominance battle, and stayed with Marraghrrarrm for a blissful seven days. Shortly thereafter, he struck out again in search of a more plentiful area of the stream. Much as he would have liked to see whether he would become a father, bear custom spoke of finding more mates and expanding one's territory in preparation for the oncoming winter.
Ggrrarrghrrgrm eventually came to a small cavern set into the side of a hill, underneath an apple tree. What a perfect winter home! Food was plentiful, there was clean water around, and it was a short trek to a fish-filled stream. There was only one problem… small, green bipeds. They approached with pointy sticks and jabbering voices, but by displaying his might (and eating a few), Ggrrarrghrrgrm was able to keep them away from his den. A larger, furrier biped with a voice like Rrghmrrargh's roared at the green ones, and they left him alone ever since.
Now, Ggrrarrghrrgrm maintains his territory, ever watchful for new bipeds and bears. It's not a bad life for a little bear!
