01[20:22] <@Hyuuint> Whilst the others continue to mill about, argue and otherwise futz about in the morning (Before the whole jail debacle), Neris is outside, checking on the condition of her cart, as well as the loot carried upon it. Nothing seems to be stolen, all in place, and two little dormice that had taken refuge in a pot are now homeless. I would rather not have a shrieking shopkeep after me for an unwanted surprise. A few more checks here and there…
[20:26] <@Michelle> Liz had listened to the arguing and milling about before deciding that now might be a good time to get a little freedom from her metallic shadow. Slipping off in the confusion she decided to buy some supplies for her alchemical endeavors, and for that she needed some additional funds. She headed over to where Neris was inspecting the cart, standing back and letting Neris finish whatever it…
[20:26] <@Michelle> …was she was doing.
01[20:29] <@Hyuuint> *A couple more rope checks…and done.* Seems to be in order. She glances over to the waiting Liz, before getting to the front of her cart "If you are wanting to escape from your unwanted bodyguard, now is the time. I plan on getting this sold off to the proper people, and it may take some time." Another glance prolonged this time.
[20:38] <@Michelle> "That would be fine. I have no idea what they are all doing over there but I need to get some supplies and I'd prefer to go shopping without having someone standing two feet behind me at all times." Liz replies as she hops up onto the cart. "You're a member of House Tarkanan right? I've only been with them for a short time and I mostly met some of their officials and bureaucrats. But you…
[20:38] <@Michelle> …seem at least less stuffy or commanding than they do." She says with a slight laugh, trying to lighten the mood as she hears the somewhat suppressed tone of Neris' voice.
01[20:40] <@Hyuuint> After Liz hops on, Neris makes sure she is settled in before giving a push and getting the cart rolling. "It is true. I was asked to join their ranks a small time ago, having seen me in action, and having detected my…difference." A small pause at the second half of the comment "I have yet to be there long. Not long enough to start developing such habits." Sarcasm? Telling it straight? Hard to tell with that tone.
01[20:41] <@Hyuuint> "I cannot imagine it has been easy to have someone there at almost every waking hour of the day."
[20:45] <@Michelle> "Oh it hasn't been too long yet. I'm mostly a little glad to be out and about although…. I could have done without getting stabbed. You're a warrior right? How do you really…. deal with that? It hurt a lot more than I expected. And from what I can guess that's not the first thing trying to kill us we'll have to deal with. Any tips?"
01[20:48] <@Hyuuint> A small pause again. "It depends on the wound. If it is small, not too life-threatening, focus on getting better, and dulling out the pain. Maybe get angry at the being that hurt you, for the adrenaline. If it does become lifethreatening, avoid getting angry or panicking. Get focused on healing or retreating carefully. At any rate, always keep a good eye on where you move, offensively or defensively." A small bump in the road, things get jossled. "Otherwise, there are few ways of truly dealing with it. And it can vary from person to person. I tend to ignore, Rosso tends to get into a rage, and so forth."
[20:54] <@Michelle> "I can kind of see why Rosso would do that, although maybe not as extreme. I know I wanted to get pretty mad at that Ogre, but then I guess I was too in shock to react before… well everyone else dealt with it. I wasn't too much help was I?" Liz says a little absentmindedly. "But focus on something other than the pain. Yeah that might work." Liz says before another small bump almost makes…
[20:54] <@Michelle> …her bite her tongue. "Roads sure are bumpy." She chuckles, attempting to change the subject.
01[20:58] <@Hyuuint> "It is poor planning, and poor construction. Time will wear them down, one way or another." It's not noticeable, but she does try to keep from hitting the worse bumps from here on. "You were not useless. Sometimes the wave of battle goes by so quick, few can join or help. It is a variating thing in the world." No change in tone while she speaks that. SOon enough, they make it to the first of the shops. It is one of the few general item shops in town, namely one focused in home furnishings, such as the looms and the like that are taking up so much space in the cart.
[21:01] <@Michelle> Liz nods, taking Neris's words to heart. She climbs down off the cart as they arrive. "Do you want some help unloading or anything. I can help you with some of the heavy stuff. Although I still wonder why we took…. well everything… Will someone even buy it?"
01[21:03] <@Hyuuint> "There is sure to be somebody. Items like this take time to craft, sometimes too much time. As for why we took it, that village was to be burned or destroyed, as to make sure no one gets too much out of what was going on." She pointedly ends the reasons there, considering they're in the marketplace. It's not busy yet, but there are still a few milling folks. Neris walks over to the cart, unties a few things…
01[21:03] <@Hyuuint> And extremely easily lifts loom after loom out of the back.
[21:07] <@Michelle> Liz's eyes widen slightly as she watches Neris lift things off of the cart. "Oh ummm…. oh my…." She stammers, a little taken aback at this feat of strength. She would expect something like this from Rosso, maybe Phantom as she had no idea of how to tell just how strong the warforged was, but Neris being capable of this was a little surprising. "I guess you have it then."
01[21:09] <@Hyuuint> "For now, yes." THe slightest hint of a smirk there, before it disappears. "Should make things easy for the shopkeep." She steps inside, to find the proprietor. "Greetings. We have a few bits that might be useful for you to sell to others. A few looms, a couple dressers. Things of that nature, ones that take time to make."
[21:14] <@Michelle> The shopkeep nodded thoughtfully. "Hmmm, not much demand for looms right now, but there may be in a few months. I might be able to make you a deal. And dressers? Do you know what kind? Craftsmanship?" He asked as he followed Neris outside to see the array of furniture offloaded off the cart. "Oh my that is quite a collection. Might I ask where it came from?"
01[21:15] <@Hyuuint> "A township that no longer need them thanks to ogre based raiding and politics."
[21:28] <@Michelle> "Oh, well…. let's look at the merchandise shall we?" He says, seemingly a little perturbed about the origin. "Hmmmm, construction is…. some minor wear…. that might split…." he muttered to himself as he looked over the assorted furniture. "These are in ok condition but as I said, not much demand and… well they have seen better days. I could only give you…. let's say 43 gold pieces…
[21:28] <@Michelle> …for each of them. And I'd be doing you a favor." Liz looked up at this and stepped up to him. "Now wait just a minute. 'doing us a favor' you know that the wood from these alone should be worth more than that. These are well crafted, by local hands no doubt, and from sturdy hard woods. And don't think I didn't hear you trying to devalue them. Splitting in deed. These things should be as…
[21:28] <@Michelle> …good as if they were brand new…" Liz continued, talking and ranting, convincing him to inspect and look over the looms again as she continued to extoll the merits of the looms. As she continued speaking she looked to Neris and gave her a slight smile. "Now I say that these would be a steal at…. say 65 gold a piece but…. how about 50 instead?"
01[21:30] <@Hyuuint> *minor nod of approval from behind. Just out of sight from the shopkeep, but Liz definitely saw it*
[21:33] <@Michelle> "Oh but…. well…" the man sputtered and tried to interject as Liz continued her ranting. Neris may have noticed that Liz appeared slightly taller than normal, standing just a bit over the man so he had to look slightly up at her. Finally he held up his hands. "Ok, ok, 50 gold. But I'll have you know you're cheating me." Liz smiled "Pleasure doing business." She said, walking in with the…
[21:33] <@Michelle> …shop keep to finalize the payment. After words she came back to Neris, now back to her shorter self. Maybe it was just a trick or something before. "He wants us to take them around back. Think you can handle that?"
01[21:34] <@Hyuuint> "Easily done." And with that, she starts effortlessly hefting the supplies to the proposed area. Carefully. Once everything is in place, they collect their gold, double check the amount, and head onwards. (NOTE FOR MEANY: We might be flubbing the numbers, but the important thing is the character interaction :P)
01[21:35] <@Hyuuint> Neris readies herself at the much lighter cart again, waits for Liz to get settled, before rolling onwards. A short way from the shop: "I noticed you changed height. Just a little. Impressive trick."
[21:39] <@Michelle> "Oh that…. yeah I can do some fun things. After all…." At this Liz's eyes seem to lose focus for a moment as the color drains out of her irises, her skin flushes to a pale white, along with her hair, and her facial features flatten out slightly to a rather more ambiguously humanoid figure. "I am a changeling. Didn't Tarkanan tell you that? I'd figured everyone would know. I'm just…"…
[21:39] <@Michelle> …she continues as she shifts back to the Liz Neris is more familiar with. "… more comfortable looking like this. I guess that's part of my upbringing. And it makes people stare less." She says with a soft chuckle.
01[21:41] <@Hyuuint> "A changeling? Interesting. No, I did not know about that origin. And I can understand why you would prefer to remain in your…Liz form. THe world seems to be rather against the unusual by nature, no matter how benevolent or benign." She is pushing slower than before, despite the lessened weight. Dragging out the shopping time perhaps?
[21:45] <@Michelle> "Well not even as much the world as my Dad. But I… prefer not talking about him. Also some of the veterans of the Last War can be a bit touchy around changelings. They didn't develop the best reputation so I heard." Liz sits back a little in the clearer cart and fiddles with her gauntlet apparatus, teasing out and checking the tools and the shard in it. "I mean I'm sure you've had the same…
[21:45] <@Michelle> …thing right? Half-orcs aren't particularly common so I hear."
01[21:49] <@Hyuuint> "The half orc portion of my life wasn't a problem. I was raised in Graywall of Droamm, so I was surrounded by much more unusual races. Drow, lizardfolk, full blooded orcs, the stoke-kin, and so forth. Outside of there, I have gotten a few remarks, but none nearly as…detrimental as most describe. I was blessed, in a way, for having a much more approachable form and face. No, it was the…bit that got me into the House that caused more problems, but even then, that is hidden rather well away from view."
[21:53] <@Michelle> "Well I can understand that. My mark is a bit more prominent, which actually helped me earlier in life as it made it much easier to just show off. You'd be amazed how easy it is to walk around a Cannith facility if you look like you know where you're going and have a visible mark." Liz said, before pausing a moment then blushing. "Oh, that was… probably a little insensitive. I'm sorry."
01[21:55] <@Hyuuint> "I took no offense. My mark is a bit…unusual. It is one not normally allowed to be shown, both in what it is, and where it is." Looks back a smidge. "What does your mark do for you? Is it a more benevelent one?"
[22:01] <@Michelle> "Well, I had to use it some times in Cannith. Mostly it fixes things. It also sometimes just…. inspires me when I work on things. Like I'll be stuck on something and just… the lines and shape of the mark come to my mind and I figure out how to finish something." Liz said, sounding a little whistful. "So I guess you would call it benevolent. It can also supposedly make things entirely…
[22:01] <@Michelle> …from nothing but I haven't gotten that good at using it yet."
01[22:02] <@Hyuuint> "So a crafting mark for an alchemist. Very fitting." Still moving along, though at a liesurely pace. "Mine was…not as helpful in such regards. Though it helped put me on my current path."
[22:12] <@Michelle> "Well that's a good thing if your path is what you want to do right?"
01[22:12] <@Hyuuint> Another one of her pauses. "Yes, I suppose it is."
[22:16] <@Michelle> "So…. if you don't mind me asking the ummm… Aberrant marks can do a lot of different things right? What does yours do?"
01[22:17] <@Hyuuint> "Mine…hm." She looks around a bit, to make sure no one else is listening in. "Mine…causes a chilling touch. You know, the kind that the dread necromancers once used."
[22:22] <@Michelle> "Ah, yes I've heard about that spell. That seems… a little scary actually. I wonder what it means, or why it showed up on you."
01[22:24] <@Hyuuint> "I am unsure. All I know is that I was the victim of it's first activation." A slight note of bitterness in her voice, the first time Liz has probably heard that. "But at any rate, with it activated, I was able to get into a cabal of monks that protected the city, and taught me most of what I know today." Sighs "It's placement nearly killed me, but at least it's in a place that is naturally easily covered. Unless it grows bigger."
[22:26] <@Michelle> Liz looks to Neris a little concerned. "I am sorry to hear that, but glad you survived and seem to have things under control now. Is that why you always seem so…. well I guess unemotional would be the best word."
01[22:30] <@Hyuuint> "The effects are a fair bit long reaching. According to the monks, the damage was both physical and spiritual in nature. The mark's first activation is the most potent afterall." In spite of the loitering, the have made it to the next shopkeep. He's a lot more pleasant, and easily takes in the needed arms and armor at a fair price for both sides. THe cart is all but empty at this point, save for a few trinkets that need specialized salespeople, but Neris keeps her slower pace.
01[22:32] <@Hyuuint> "What was it like, coming from a land of scholars and politics? At the very least, that is what it sounds like you came from."
[22:37] <@Michelle> "Well I wasn't really part of most of it. That was always Father's business. It's the sole reason, far as I know, that he never really liked me. It was an embarrassment for a Noble of the House, especially a Dragon Marked one to marry some random common woman, but that was not unheard of. To have my mother wind up being a Changeling? Well I suspect the only reason I am not an orphan is I had…
[22:37] <@Michelle> …the mark. Still, when I managed to get out of the apartment he kept me in. There was so much to learn, so much to do. So many new things just waiting to be discovered." Liz's eyes seemed to gleam a little as she spoke of it. "I loved sneaking into some of the higher level lectures of the artificers and the magewrights of Cannith. It was wonderful. The Politics….. not as much." Liz…
[22:37] <@Michelle> …finishes with a much flatter tone.
01[22:42] <@Hyuuint> "Ah. I see. THe father was either resentful or disappointed. Or perhaps overly protective, either of his own gain or for you. EIther way, I can understand. Well…." She heistates "Not from a personal standpoint. My own parents were very kind, very understanding. They were former adventurers, a Bard father and a Ranger mother. Father was the human by the way." Small smirk again. Wow, so much emotion today! "For the first bit of my life, they taught me all they could, letting me know how most of the world worked, at at the very least tried their best to set me up for a good life. When the mark appeared, they stayed by my side, and spoke to the monks I mentioned earlier. To get me trained, protected…maybe a way to help with my powers, not to just simply squash them down. I…did not get to see much of them as time passed, though I got to have one goodbye with each before I set out on my teacher-demanded world training." A long pause, her own air growing a smidge heavy "It has been a while since I have heard from them since." She stiffens back up "But I have learned much, honed my skills, and have since be discovered by the House. So, not all in vain."
[22:50] <@Michelle> "It sounds like your family loved you a lot. And, well it things have turned out well then that's good right? I mean, you're getting to experience the world now. I'm sure your parents would approve of you adventuring. So you have that too."
01[22:50] <@Hyuuint> "THank you. I find that…comforting." Small smile.
[23:03] <@Michelle> After a moment of thought Liz suddenly spoke up again. "Oh, I have a question to ask. I haven't really known many half orcs before and I find, well frankly I find their appearance quite interesting and unique. Would you mind if I, well, mimiced you for a bit to get a better feel of what they feel like? I know it's an odd request but I like to explore my abilities as much as I can and, well,…
[23:03] <@Michelle> …it's hard to find models to work with." She said, with a slight blush realising that her request might be a bit rude.
01[23:06] <@Hyuuint> Neris gives Liz a fairly lengthy glance at the request. Head still tilted in her direction, Neris has a moment of contemplation…before nodding. "By all means. Far be it from me to stifle your desire to practice. And I am a bit honored you would use me as the…model for your personal clay." Smiles again, and really warmly at that. "The color might be a bit interesting to pull off."
01[23:09] <@Hyuuint> "When would you want to do these experiments?"
[23:11] <@Michelle> "Hmmm, probably not right now. Maybe after our next mission? Or while we're on the road to it if we have the time. And actually color is one of the easiest things to work with. The problem is bone structures. Half species in general are either easy as they take after one or the other, or incredibly complex because the blending is not quite 'perfect' and the amalgamations are unique on their…
[23:11] <@Michelle> …own…. no offense. It's just fascinating to try to match."
01[23:13] <@Hyuuint> "No offense taken. Like I said, I was blessed with my own unique structures."
01[23:17] <@Hyuuint> "What all would I need to do to help you with this proceedure? To I simply stand still?"
[23:21] <@Michelle> "Well standing still helps for the basic appearance, but seeing movement is useful for knowing how you move. It may sound strange but actually walking like another race is harder than it would seem. Each person has their own gait but inside of that each race has a slightly different basic stride. Humans tend to be rather rapid and hurried. Elves are a bit more ponderous and minimalistic….
[23:21] <@Michelle> …Halflings are minimalistic in a completely different way. Dwarves take powerful, purposeful strides as if they own the land they walk on. I still haven't figured out half orcs and orcs, but I would like to."
01[23:21] <@Hyuuint> "What have you noticed about half-orcs, thus far?" Gee, she sounds almost self-concious
[23:27] <@Michelle> "Well… you seem to be rather purposeful in your movements too, but less of the overwhelmingly strong stride of a dwarf, more like…. you know what you need to do and you do it. I don't know if that's all half-orcs, but it is certainly something you seem to have."
01[23:28] <@Hyuuint> She nods to that. "Makes sense." POnders "You would need to see me in motion? Perhaps you could witness one of my practice sessions. One of the slower ones at least. Might help with you gaining insight to the range of motion."
[23:31] <@Michelle> "That might help, if you wouldn't mind. I know some people prefer solitude when practicing or doing things like that."
01[23:33] <@Hyuuint> "I do not mind. I did offer, afterall." Smirk "Besides, simple walking is one thing. Seeing the body in action in a controlled environment is another. It is one of the reasons why when two or more monks would spar, the rest of us would be tasked to watch. The younger crowd was even asked questions about the form and placement of the two combatants, so that we could learn where and how to strike, or to dodge. It was very illuminating"
[23:36] <@Michelle> "I can imagine. Who knows, maybe I might learn a thing or two. After all if we're going to be in danger more often, learning how to dodge or fight better might be a good idea."
01[23:36] <@Hyuuint> "I may not be a master, yet, but I could teach you. Might help."
[23:38] <@Michelle> "Well then thank you for the offer, and for agreeing to help me with this." Liz said with a smile.
01[23:38] <@Hyuuint> "Very welcome."
