The tale of the Hermit Orgolloyss and his rise to power, along with the tale of his Order's origin.
As depicted by Sszeyl of Orgolloyss in a series of pictures — 1221 CA
Long ago, when Lolth was first cast down into the dark beneath by the elven gods, a band of her people were cut off from the rest by a cave in. They tried to carve out the rocks, but failed and so despaired. But the hermit Orgolloyss stepped forth, and taught the people how to survive in the dark places. How to grow strong through practice and meditation, so that no beast could harm them or steal food from them.
Decades passed, and soon enough hermits had developed strength to smash boulders with their hands, that the cave-in was soon beaten to dust. But the hermits saw Lolth's society with horror and disgust. Serving no higher purpose than to appease the whims of a tyrant. The hermits closed themselves off again, becoming the deep fears of the Drow. And waited.
Thousands of years passed, and Lolth went to war against the surface. Thee hermits waited, and waited, until at last their ancient enemy was weary from combat, and on the retreat with her army still far away. As one, the hermits came from the dark, and threw down Lolth's temples and clergy until none were left in the city-cavern.
As the hermits felled those that followed Lolth as they returned from combat, the ancient Hermit Orgolloyss warred with Lolth herself. Weary she was, mighty was he. And at last, Orgolloyss threw down his enemy and smote her ruin on a mountainside.
