Zairith is a half-drow (?) enchanter currently living in Castleton with Lethiriss. Zairith's familiar is a one-eyed tortoiseshell cat named LiNeer who tends to unnerve people with single-eyed glares. He is known for going on lengthy trips to gather spell components and to distribute his magical wares for profit. His cousin, Tebryn of Orgolloyss, requested that Zairith help an associate, Sszeyl of Orgolloyss, to survive the surface world and ferry reports from Sszeyl to Tebryn periodically. When not helping the young Terror navigate the surface world, he operates the Ebonwood Curiosity Shop in Castleton under the guise of a half-high-elf named Rusal Ebonwood.
He is known to be very skilled in the use of words, being accomplished enough to have the willful and physically stronger Sszeyl under his control… most of the time. Communication issues do arise. His ability with magic has not been seen, but it has been rumored that he is dangerously skilled, especially with enchantment spells. He is at least skilled enough to make a wide variety of magical and wondrous items to sell in his shop. His magical and alchemical workspaces often smell strongly of spearmint, a surface plant he is quite fond of and claims that the scent helps him focus.
He was also known to aid Trofim Kabakian in the cleric's mad quest, though whether this was out of any interest in the cleric's cause or out of a sense of obligation to Lethiriss is up for debate. He also has an impish brother, Rhylinar, who seems as different from Zairith as day is from night.
A very private and knowledgeable individual, Zairith is a keeper of many secrets; it was only just recently discovered that he has been teaching long-distance magic classes from the basement of the Ebonwood through the use of aspect mirrors, for example. Time will tell what other bits of hidden knowledge the Guardians may discover about him or learn from him eventually. If he ever deems them ready to know. Even his real name has been kept secret; it took overhearing it from Stin'baldrin of Deneld and hearing it directly from Pellan'zyne for the Guardians to learn that his true given name is Gelthrael.
Tathi Eyllisaearsithek seems to have made it a personal mission to tease Zairith at every opportunity.
Zairith's birthday is Larethon 17th, though you'd be better off asking Lethiriss or Rhylinar when it is than asking him directly.
